Police said the two victims were washing windows on a building when the crane fell
A man was killed and his son seriously injured when the boom crane on a flatbed truck tipped over in downtown Montreal on Sunday morning.
Police and firefighters were deployed to the scene in front of a UQAM pavilion on St. Denis Street, near René-Lévesque Boulevard.
Montreal police said the two victims were washing windows on an eight-storey building when the crane collapsed at around 10:30 a.m.
One victim, a 53,year-old man, died instantly. The second, who police confirmed was his son, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Montreal police also said three witnesses have been treated for shock. The Quebec workplace health and safety board said the two of them are also related to the two men on the platform.
Traffic has been blocked off in the area around the corner of St. Denis Street and René-Lévesque.
Cranes arrived on the scene to remove the one that fell.
The health and safety board said it will likely take months to report on the exact cause of the incident.
