Suspected radicalized Montreal teen said to have died in Iraq

One of the seven young Quebecers suspected of joining jihadists fighting overseas early this year has died in Iraq, according to a call made to the teen's parents, Radio-Canada reports.

Parents received call saying their son had died as a 'martyr' in Iraqi city of Tikrit

Islamic State militants march in Raqqa, Syria. The parents of a student at Collège de Maisonneuve say they received a call from abroad, saying their son had died in Iraq.

One of the seven young Quebecers suspected of joining jihadists fighting overseas last winter is said to have died in Iraq, according to Radio-Canada sources.

The parents of a student at Collège de Maisonneuve say they received a call from abroad, saying their son had died in Iraq.

Parents of the student say they received a call from a woman speaking Arabic, saying their son had died as a "martyr" in the Iraqi city of Tikrit.

Radio-Canada sources report that investigators with the RCMP are taking the report seriously, but wouldn't confirm the death.

Radio-Canada has decided not to release the young man's name out of respect for his family.

Like four of the seven students who left Montreal in mid-January, the young man was a frequent visitor to the Islamic community centre led by Adil Charkaoui.
