Stéphane Dion says Tories will 'spend millions' to 'destroy a man'
Former Liberal leader says his party will fight Conservative fear with hope
Stéphane Dion, Liberal MP for Saint-Laurent-Cartierville, says his party wants to fight the Conservative's recent attack ads with hope.
"These attack ads are very effective," Dion told CBC’s Daybreak on Friday.
"They will spend millions of dollars to destroy a man."
Dion said Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau is an optimistic person, and the Liberals plan to focus its campaigning on the skills he would bring to office, rather than spend time attacking other candidates.
As a former Liberal leader, Dion is familiar with the sting of attack ads.
In 2007 and 2008, a Conservative campaign branded Dion as a weak leader and took aim at his environmental record.
Dion says at that time the Liberals were not prepared for the attacks.
But now, Dion says his party is ready to fight.
"The difference is this time, we are ready to counter-attack."
