Montreal weather: Wintry mix of freezing rain, snow headed our way
Expect slippery road conditions overnight and into morning rush hour
Montreal is under a freezing rain warning as a winter storm headed for eastern Canada makes its way closer to Quebec.
Ice build-up caused by freezing rain into the evening could develop in the following areas:
- Châteauguay - La Prairie area
- Laval area
- Longueuil - Varennes area
- Montréal Island area
Accumulation of between five and 15 millimetres is possible, according to Environment Canada.
Tomorrow, you'll want to plan for some extra travel time on Wednesday thanks to the wintry mix of weather that will hit southern Quebec.
Light snow will fall in the morning, covering the roads and sidewalks. Winds, at times gusting up to 50 kilometres an hour, can reduce visibility.
The Montreal area are expected to get five to 10 centimetres of snow.
Areas north and east of Montreal, particularly in central Quebec, can see heavier snowfall.
"Snowfall amounts between 15 and 25 centimetres are expected in a swath from Pontiac to Lac-Saint-Jean and toward Manicouagan," said a special weather statement released by Environment Canada.
In southern Quebec, the snow is expected to switch over to freezing rain by Wednesday afternoon, as the temperature is expected to rise to about 0 C.
Freezing rain is expected to continue for a few hours, but rising temperatures will cause the precipitation to turn into plain rain by early evening.
The wet weather will stick around all day Thursday, when the daytime high is expected to be near 5 C.
