Workers at Stoneham ski resort in Quebec inch toward 3-day strike

Talks between the union and management to reach a last-minute deal went all day Monday, but despite some reported progress, no agreement was reached, said the president of the workers' union affiliated with the CSN, Jacques Ratté.

Strike could launch on Dec. 27 if no deal is reached

The Stoneham ski resort near Quebec City could shut down due to a strike for part of the busy holiday period. Workers are posed to launch a three-day strike on Dec. 27.

Talks between the union and management to reach a last-minute deal went all day Monday, but despite some reported progress, they did not reach an agreement, said the president of the workers' union affiliated with the CSN, Jacques Ratté.

He still hopes the operator of the Resorts of the Canadian Rockies (RCR) will agree to resume negotiations by Dec. 26 and potentially avoid the walkout.

"We'd like to reach an agreement before Friday," Ratté told Radio-Canada. "We're available."

The vice-president and general manager of the eastern region for the RCR, Maxime Cretin, said the RCR intends to continue negotiations over the coming days, in a statement to Radio-Canada.

Officials with the ski hill say if a strike does happen, they will be in touch with ticket holders.

Ratté says workers are asking for higher salaries. During an assembly on Dec. 18, employees voted 95 per cent in favour of a ten-day strike mandate.

The collective agreement for the 200 syndicated workers expired in June.
