Montreal's Southwest borough launched a new free composting program this week.

Drop-off points:

  • Parc Jacques-Couture
  • Parc Gédéon-De Catalogne
  • Parc Polyvalente Saint-Henri
  • Parc David-Lefebvre
  • Parc Clifford
  • Parc Campbell-Ouest
  • Place Holy Cross et Drake
  • Parc Sammy-Hill
  • Parc Joe-Beef
  • Parc des Cheminots

City councillor Véronique Fournier said residents can pick up a free bin and take it to their homes, fill it up with compost and then drop it off at one of several collection centres.

Fournier said the borough invested $50,000 in the project, which is the first of its kind in the city.

She said a door-to-door composting trial in the Southwest’s Ville-Emard neighbourhood was very popular.

The compost will be sent to an industrial collection site in the Lanaudière region.
