Provincial police divers have found the body of a boy who was riding on a snowmobile that went through the ice Sunday afternoon in Quebec's Mauricie region.

The 11-year-old boy's mother, 55, is still missing.

The pair, tourists from France, were snowmobiling in the Mastigouche wildlife reserve, near Saint-Aléxis-des-Monts, when the machine went through the ice into the Loup River.

The underwater search for the missing woman has been suspended, however, a provincial police helicopter may fly over the area Tuesday, if weather conditions allow.

Police said the pair was travelling with people on two other snowmobiles, including a guide who contacted emergency services at around 4:45 p.m. Sunday.

The accident happened northwest of Trois-Rivières. (Radio-Canada/Google)
