RCMP says it fears Montreal man will commit terrorism offence

The Crown is seeking a peace bond against a Montreal man the RCMP says it fears will commit a terrorism offence.

A summons has been issued for a 22-year-old man, who is required to appear before a Quebec court judge on Thursday.

The summons says the man will be asked to sign a peace bond when he appears before the judge.

The Public Prosecution Service of Canada says the federal government has used peace bonds in terrorism-related cases fewer than ten times.

Daniel Brien, a spokesman for the federal Crown, says the peace bond is a preventative measure.

The RCMP's Quebec detachment would not comment when contacted today and a person answering the phone at the residence of the 22-year-old man hung up when contacted by The Canadian Press.
