Weather warning in effect for wide swath of Quebec
Snowfall warning issued for Quebec City, the Laurentians, Lanaudière, Mauricie, Charlevoix and Gaspé
Much of Quebec is getting slammed with another blast of winter weather.
Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings for a large swath of the province for Tuesday and Wednesday, including Quebec City, Gaspé, the Laurentians, Charlevoix, Mauricie and Lanaudière regions.
A winter storm warning is also in effect for Saguenay and Sept-Îles, while freezing rain is expected for the areas of Vaudreuil, Gatineau, Pontiac, Lachute and Saint-Jérôme.
Parts of Quebec could see another 30 centimetres of snow, including wind gusts of up to 70 km/h.
Montreal will once again be spared the worst of the storm but is expected to get a mix of snow and freezing rain.
Tricky driving conditions
Roads, highways and sidewalks could be slippery and strong winds could also lead to blowing snow and reduced visibility for drivers.
The Sûreté du Québec will be out in full force as part of its winter surveillance operation and is asking motorists to be careful while driving.
"There will be tickets given out and our goal is to prevent collisions," said Sgt. Daniel Thibodeau.
Orléans Express, Quebec's main intercity bus company, is warning customers that all departures Tuesday are conditional, due to the weather.
The latest warnings from Environment Canada come just one week after a major storm ripped through much of eastern Quebec and Atlantic Canada.
- Sept-Îles, other eastern Quebec communities assess damage from violent storm
- Snow, heavy winds wallop eastern Quebec, Atlantic
It brought up 50 centimetres of snow, which led to highway closures, widespread power outages and a destructive storm surge in several areas.
Residents of 18 eastern Quebec communities who suffered property damage during the storm will be entitled to financial aid from the government.
