Montreal's Metropolitan Transport Agency (AMT) is buying 20 new locomotives from Bombardier to improve service on commuter trains.
The 20 hybrid locomotives, which run on biodiesel and electricity, will cost $220 million.
They'll be added to some commuter train lines running out of Montreal, including the train de l'Est, which serves Mascouche and Terrebonne.
The AMT says better service will increase passenger volume by as much as 43,000.
The energy-efficient locomotives are manufactured in Europe.
They will be ready in 2012.
