Quebec teachers hold surprise protest in Montreal
Demonstrators say provincial government is abandoning public education sector
Montreal's largest teachers' group took to the city's streets this morning to protest against budget restrictions and stalled negotiations with the provincial government.

The Fédération autonome de l'enseignement (FAE), which represents about a third of Quebec teachers, organized the surprise protest ahead of a union meeting.
The union's members are debating whether to proceed with a plan to hold three consecutive strike days on Dec. 9, 10 and 11.

—@AntoniNerestantThe protest comes after a series of rotating public sector strikes across the province. Demonstrators gathered outside Liberal offices in Old Montreal before marching to the Palais des congrès.
Quebec teachers have been without a contract since April.
