Quebec is facing a shortage of pediatricians, says a leading medical trainer in Montreal.
Dr. Richard Haber at Montreal Children's Hospital says he receives six to eight calls a day from parents looking for doctors for their children.
The pediatrician and director of the hospital's Pediatric Consultation Centre said the doctors he works with are already treating a maximum number of patients.
Pediatrics needs more attention in medical schools, Haber said.
"I think we need to either train more pediatricians to look after complex cases, and/or bolster the training of family doctors and make them more comfortable in terms of dealing with the pediatric population," he said in an interview with CBC.
