Porchfest NDG showcases homegrown musical talent
Sounds of guitars, mandolins, banjos and more waft over NDG residential streets
Notre-Dame-de-Grâce's best music venue isn't in a bar or club but rather, on people's front porches.
Aurora Robinson returned to Montreal after years of living in Somerville, Mass., which held its own local Porchfest.
She had fond memories of local musicians strumming tunes on their front stoops while Boston-area families strolled by.
She brought the idea to NDG when she left the U.S. and headed home.
"When I moved back to NDG, it just occurred to me that this would be the perfect place to hold a Porchfest. I take a lot of walks in the 'hood. There are so many nice, tree-lines streets and so many balconies and porches. Lots of musicians live around here. It just felt right," she told CBC's Jeanette Kelly in March.
And so with the sun shining down and perhaps the warmest temperatures Montreal has seen in 2015, professional and amateur musicians took to the neighbourhood's porches to serenade NDG dwellers and visitors.
