POP Montreal: 13 years lucky
Annual pop music extravaganza runs until Sept. 21
Pop Montreal is the festival of all things indie - music, crafts, short films, activities for kids, fashion, writing and even a symposium.
Since its inception 2001, it has not only championed emerging talents but has reminded us about great "forgotten" artists of the past.
Burt Bacharach and Arcade Fire may be miles apart stylistically, but their ability to define coolness for their respective eras earns them a right on a Pop stage.
Church basements, loft spaces and recording studios have all been used as performance spaces.
No other public festival has made a point of converging artists, performance style and architecture to create what POP founder Dan Seligman describes as, "that magical music moment."
Patti Smith in 2013 at Eglise St-Jean Baptiste, Braids at Breakglass Studio in 2010, and the aforementioned 2011 Burt Bacharach concert at St-Jean Baptiste all are proof that magic does exist.
The 13th installment of POP Montreal has rolled into Montreal and will present over 50 concerts spread over a number of Montreal venues.
