Park Ex parents rejoice as EMSB nixes plan to sell piece of park to daycare
EMSB confirms it's nixing plan to sell corner of Sinclair Laird Park for daycare expansion
Park Extension residents who mobilized to save a local park are claiming victory.
Earlier this year, a daycare at the corner of Jarry Street and de L'Epée Avenue started looking into buying land on the northern end of Sinclair Laird Park in order to expand.
Biba Neskovic, the daycare's co-owner, said at the time the new building would extend no more than two houses deep and would be two storeys high, to occupy as little space on the ground as possible.
However, parents in the area didn't want to lose the space in the park, which they said is one of the only green spaces in the neighbourhood.
The parents started a petition to gain the attention of the English Montreal School Board, which owns the land.
EMSB spokesperson Mike Cohen confirmed talk of a sale has been halted, saying the board heard the parental outcry and nixed the plan.
