The universally accessible tunnel will be made possible by the construction of an extension of the Vendôme Metro station building.
Quebec is funding the cost of the project, which is $76.5 million.
A temporary Vendôme-MUHC tunnel unveiled in June came under criticism for stopping a few hundred metres short of the entrance of the hospital.
The $5-million tunnel is also not wheelchair accessible.
As a result, the STM set up a new wheelchair-accessible route, called the 77 Lionel-Groulx/MUHC, earlier this year.
Construction is expected to begin in April 2017 and is expected to be completed by end of summer 2019.
