Provincial police are dealing with dozens of vehicle collisions on Monday afternoon due to freezing rain and sloppy road conditions.

In the Montérégie and Montreal regions alone, there were more than 100 collisions, confirmed Sûreté du Québec spokesman Sgt. Ronald McInnis. No one was been seriously injured.

McInnis recommends drivers and pedestrians take extra care while on the roads and observe a safe distance between vehicles.

The freezing rain is moving east, so McInnis added that people travelling in the Eastern Townships should be mindful that road conditions will deteriorate later Monday.

Flight delays

Travellers are also facing delays or cancellations for arriving and departing flights at Montreal's Pierre Elliott Trudeau International airport due to the stormy weather.

Environment Canada issued a freezing rain warning for Boxing Day that covers Montreal and southern Quebec.

The freezing rain is expected to occur for several hours lasting into the late afternoon, affecting areas such as Montreal, the Mauricie, the Eastern Townships and Quebec City.
