Montreal drivers struggle through 1st snowfall of season

Montreal's first snowfall of the season — even if it was only a light dusting — led to delays and multiple accidents this morning.

Montreal's first snowfall of the season — even if it was only a light dusting — led to major delays this morning.

There were multiple reports of minor accidents in and around the city as drivers adjusted to the conditions.

In one case, a small school bus slid into a ditch on Highway 30 in Vaudreuil-Dorion.

Nobody was on board the bus except for the driver, who wasn't hurt in the accident.

Transports Québec cautioned drivers to be careful with the first snow sticking to the roads.

"It might get slippery because the snow is getting compressed on the asphalt," said spokesperson Mario St. Pierre.

"By the time the salt is melting it, there's a possibility it gets slippery for awhile."

The snow was supposed to end this morning with no major accumulation expected.

The deadline in Quebec for switching to winter tires is Dec. 15.

St. Pierre said drivers should consider putting on their winter tires before the mandatory deadline.
