A man has died after being shot at a car wash in the Saint-Léonard borough, Montreal police say.

The shooting happened Tuesday morning at around 10:30 a.m. near the corner of the Metropolitain Expressway and Lacordaire Boulevard.

Const. Raphaël Bergeron, a spokesperson with the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), says the 51-year-old victim was shot while waiting in line.

Police said earlier in the day that the victim was shot in the upper body after at least one suspect approached him and opened fire. Bergeron said the victim, who was known to police, was pronounced dead at hospital.

Investigators are still looking for the suspects.

A car was found burning on nearby Follereau Street and investigators believe that vehicle was used by the suspects to flee the scene.

Police have set up a large security perimeter in the area.

Police say it is the sixth homicide in the SPVM's territory this year.
