Montreal airport delays expected as Toronto plane crash forces flight diversions

Delays come as Montreal region recovering from massive, back-to-back snowstorms

Montreal's international airport officials say delays should be expected Monday as several diverted flights are expected after a plane crash in Toronto.

On Monday afternoon, a plane crashed and flipped onto its roof at Toronto's Pearson airport, injuring at least 15 passengers and closing down the airport's runways.

Around 10 flights were diverted to Montreal following the accident, according to a spokesperson for the Montréal-Trudeau International Airport.

On its Facebook page, the airport says teams are already working to welcome passengers on those diverted flights.

"However, given the large number of passengers at YUL, this situation may cause delays at various points in the passenger process," the post says.

This comes as the airport is still recovering from the massive back-to-back snowstorms that swept through southern Quebec in recent days.

The weather resulted in hundreds of flight cancellations out of Montreal's international airport on Sunday and Monday. Via Rail also cancelled service on some of its routes.

In Toronto, all passengers and crew are accounted for, Pearson airport said in a post to X just before 3 p.m. Beyond that, little information has been made available.
