A 32-year-old man was shot to death in his Longueuil home early this morning, according to the Longueuil police force.

Police said the man was hit with at least one bullet on Truteau Street around 1:30 a.m. The man, who was known to police, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police sources told Radio-Canada the shooting in Longueuil may be linked to Monday's shooting in Rivière-des-Prairies, where three men were killed and two others were injured.

Montreal police believe the Rivière-des-Prairies murders are tied to a gang-related conflict.

Neighbours of the Longueuil victim say they heard several gun shots in the early morning and now fear for their safety.

One neighbour, France Panneton, told Radio-Canada she was woken up just before 1:30 a.m. by a noise "that sounded like a chainsaw."

Panneton added: "I thought thieves were trying to cut the lock off the shed in the back."

The investigation has been handed over to the Sûreté du Québec, just one day after Quebec announced provincial police will be integrated into Montreal's anti-gun squad to help tackle violent crimes and gun trafficking.
