Police investigate reports of a blade found in a child's Halloween candy on Montreal's South Shore
Police opened an investigation in the Greenfield Park area in Longueuil
Longueuil police have opened an investigation after a small blade was reportedly found in a piece of Halloween candy in the Greenfield Park neighbourhood on Montreal's South Shore.
Police received a report that a child found a blade resembling those used in pencil sharpeners in a piece of candy the day after Halloween.
"Fortunately, the child was not injured," said Longueuil police spokesperson constable Mélanie Mercille.
"Investigators are trying to identify the person who allegedly distributed the treats."
Police say the treat was reportedly acquired on Empire Street, between Churchill Boulevard and Regent Street, in the area of Greenfield park on Oct. 31.
Police have met with the family who reported the incident and will continue investigating in the area.
Mercille says these kinds of situations are rare.
Police also urge children and parents to check their Halloween haul thoroughly for any candy that looks like it's been tampered with or unwrapped.
"If the candy is altered or falsified, we ask them to call 911," said Mercille.
Police are also urging anyone with information about the reported incident around Greenfield park to contact them.
