Last year a group of kids raised $10,000 for several charities including Sarah's Fund for children with cancer at the Montreal Children's Hospital. This year, they are at it again.

The children at K.I.D.S. Fielding daycare in the Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough were hard at work this week to raise money for others — as they have for the past two years.

About 10 K.I.D.S. daycares across Montreal have been holding bake sales and lemonade stands to raise money this summer. Two of the locations in Westmount have already raised about $4,000.

The 4-year-olds and 5-year-olds knew they were working for sick kids and were excited to be able to help them.

Fallon Renner is a coordinator and says the work is helping kids understand the importance of helping others.

"They understand that not everybody has what we have," Renner said.

"Whether it's our health or special privileges or whatever it is, that there are a lot of people close to home, not just in other countries but even in Montreal, that are suffering in one way or another."

Organisers say the initiative teaches children the power of giving. (Kristin Falcao/CBC)
