As the media landscape keeps shifting, producer and TV host Kevin Calixte focuses on being authentic and putting advocacy front-and-centre.
Calixte, who was named a CBC Quebec Black Changemaker in 2021, started The KeKe Show as a Facebook live broadcast. It now airs on community television station Natyf TV.
After the station was granted a must-carry license by the CRTC last year, he's reaching an even larger audience.
"We actually really mobilized people with the meaning of having a diverse TV channel," he said of the campaign to have the license granted.
His show gained a following for its raw, unfiltered conversations, featuring panel discussions, Black artists as musical guests and is sponsored by local Black businesses.
The show is currently on a break, but his team is gearing up for another season this spring.
He said the show is going to include international topics as well this season.
"There's a lot of surprises coming up," he said.
In addition to his talk show, Calixte is also producing a forthcoming documentary on jazz.
