Jordan Taylor, charged with drunk driving in jogger crash, released on bail

A Hudson man charged with 10 offences in connection with a collision that injured two joggers last Friday has been released on bail. 

Jordan Xavier Taylor, 22, was charged with criminal negligence, impaired driving and failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm.

Tina Adams, 20, and a friend were jogging along Cambridge Street on Friday shortly after 7 p.m. when they were struck by a car, which then hit a hydro pole and caught fire.  Taylor was arrested at the scene.

Crown prosecutor Catherine Sheitoyan said that Adams is conscious but remains in critical but stable condition.

At the Wednesday bail hearing, the judge acknowledged the seriousness of the charges but said the conditions were strict enough to justify Taylor's release.  He was released on $10,000 bail.

Taylor is not allowed to operate a vehicle, possess or consume alcohol and must live with his parents.

Sheitoyan argued Taylor should have been kept in jail pending trial.

"[He shouldn't be released] because of the gravity of the offenses, which are punishable by 10 years of imprisonment, and the fact that there are two victims," she said. 

Members of Taylor's family were present in the courtroom. One of them testified on his behalf.

An officer with the Sureté du Québec testified on behalf of the Crown.
