Pointe-Claire rallies after Jason de Belle struck by metro in Madrid
Friends and neighbours raise more than $15K to help with treatment
A Pointe-Claire man is recovering in the intensive care unit at the Hospital Universitario Clinico San Carlos in Madrid after being struck by a metro on Saturday.
Jason de Belle was standing too close to the tracks when he was hit by an approaching car, according to his family.
"No one was prepared for something like this," said Cliff Oswald, de Belle's stepfather.
Oswald said his condition is stable and doctors are waiting for his energy to return before operating.
Friends and neighbours have used a crowdfunding campaign to raise more than $15,000 to help with his treatment.
"We're absolutely humbled," Oswald told CBC Montreal's Daybreak about the money raised by the community.
De Belle was on his way back to Montreal when he was struck by a metro car.
He was due to return home in two days.
