Equipment failure has led to thousands of power outages in the province Sunday morning, mainly in the Montérégie and Lanaudière regions.

Hydro-Québec says the wet, heavy snow from last night fell onto branches that brought down wires.

A snow warning has been in effect in several regions of Quebec since Saturday evening.

The Montérégie region south of Montreal and the Lanaudière region north of the city are recording the highest number of outages on the utility's website, with 5,582 and 6,218 as of 1:30 p.m.

More than 30,000 Quebecers were without power at one point earlier Sunday morning.
