Quebec provincial police say the search is over for a person who went missing after a house caught fire on Friday evening in Saint-Georges, Que., about 85 kilometres southeast of Quebec City.

Earlier Saturday, police said they were working to locate a missing man in his 50s and another man in his 60s.

The Sûreté du Quebec (SQ) said Sunday that new information suggests only one person was inside the home at the time of the fire.

SQ spokesperson Elizabeth Marquis-Guy said on Saturday that a man was found dead in the home, but police are not yet able to confirm his identity.

Police say they received a 911 call at around 5 p.m. on Friday.

Firefighters battled the flames well into the night and have since put out the fire.

The SQ major crimes unit is investigating with the coroner to determine the cause of the fire, which is still unknown.
