A Trois-Rivières salon owner has launched a school for would-be hairdressing dads after seeing a video of a clueless father using a vacuum cleaner to style his daughter's hair.

Patrice Visage, the owner of Salon D Coiffure, welcomed his first students this past Saturday.

"I love seeing fathers get to treat their daughters like princesses," Visage said. "Maybe they won't be having tea parties, but at least they have this."

Dads are learning basics like how to brush hair so that it doesn't pull at their daughter's scalp, and some easy hairstyles, like ponytails.

Daughters at the training day told Radio-Canada that their fathers frequently had difficulty doing simple things like combing their hair.

Dad Andre Froment admitted that he had used a vacuum cleaner to get his daughter's hair into a ponytail because he thought it was too fine to style any other way.

After the event Froment said,  "I wont throw out the vacuum cleaner, but from now on I'll only use it for dust."
