'There will be no further discussions': Liberals say Gerry Sklavounos won't return to caucus

Party whip Nicole Ménard made the statement following allegations newly reported by Radio-Canada that Sklavounos behaved inappropriately toward a 15-year-old three years ago.

Gerry Sklavounos won't be returning to the Quebec Liberal caucus any time soon, according to party whip Nicole Ménard.

Ménard said so in a brief statement Wednesday in response to new allegations that Sklavounos behaved inappropriately toward a 15-year-old member of the Quebec Liberal Party three years ago, according to Radio-Canada.

"Gerry Sklavounos's status remains unchanged. There will be no further discussion," Ménard said.

Radio-Canada says it also learned that Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard had opened the door to discussions with the disgraced MNA. The discussions were to include Ménard and caucus president Filomena Rotiroti and be about Sklavounos's "progression."

"When people come to talk to me about sexual or psychological harassment, any file or meeting remains strictly confidential," Ménard also said in the statement.

Sklavounos resigned a little more than a year ago after another woman, Alice Paquet from Quebec City, accused him of sexually assaulting her

In February, the Quebec office of the Director of Penal and Criminal Prosecutions (DPCP) announced it had concluded no charges could be laid, after examining the results of a police investigation into Paquet's complaint.

Sklavounos has been sitting as an independent member of the National Assembly.
