The Groupe Construction Pomerleau-Canam (GCPC) has been hired to dismantle and reconstruct the roof and technical ring of Montreal's Olympic Stadium.

The Olympic Park signed a $729-million contract with GCPC Feb. 23, taxes not included. Quebec has earmarked a budget of $870 million for this project in early February.

The GCPC will also be responsible for annual inspections of — and repairs to — the roof for 10 years.

The roof will be fixed, rigid and feature a transparent glass hoop, so the tower will be visible from the inside.

It is supposed flood the stadium with natural light during the day and offer a view of the night sky. The concrete technical ring will be replaced by a steel tube with a curved cladding to match the stadium's architecture.

The work will be done in three phases and is expected to take four years to complete, starting this summer.
