He is the National League record-holder for games caught.
Carter is the first player to have spent a significant portion of his career with the Expos to be elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
Ex-Baltimore slugger Eddie Murray joins Carter. The two will be inducted into the hall on Sunday, July 27 at Cooperstown, New York.
