Montreal police say fire appears to be accidental in nature
Residents were forced from their homes after a fire started at the building that houses the Milano grocery store in La Petite-Patrie neighbourhood.
The fire started from a cigarette that was in a flower pot outside of the second floor of an apartment on St-Laurent Boulevard near Belanger Street.
Two firefighters were transported to hospital, but all residents made it out safely.
The extent of the damage is not yet known.
The lawyer for Pierino Di Tonno, the 82-year-old photographer who lives in an apartment owned by Milano's and fought and won against an eviction from the store, said Di Tonno is safe but that his apartment was damaged.
