Elderly man hit by bus in NDG in critical condition
Man and his wife were crossing the street near Vendôme metro station when he was struck
An 81-year-old man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was hit by a bus Friday afternoon in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce.
Police say the incident happened at 2:15 p.m., near the entrance of the Vendôme metro station.
The man was struck at the entrance to the driveway for buses, where police say the bus was turning to head towards the metro station.
The man is suffering from multiple fractures to his legs.
His wife was also transported to hospital.
“The woman was treated for shock when she saw her husband in this situation,” said Montreal police spokesman Simon Delorme.
The bus driver was also treated for shock.
The metro station was crowded with confused commuters, trying to figure out where to go while police investigators temporarily closed part of the street Friday afternoon.
Dan Lambert, a cycling and pedestrian advocate, told CBC Montreal he’s not surprised an accident took place there.
“There’s many buses turning into the turning circle at Vendôme. The problem is the traffic lights. There’s a green light for the buses to turn in at the same time as the pedestrian crossing light,” Lambert said.
