The Crown is asking for a prison term for a woman who caused a fatal traffic accident after she stopped her car on a busy highway to help ducks.

The prosecution told a sentencing hearing for Emma Czornobaj the young woman should go to jail for nine months and do 240 hours of community service.

The defence says 240 hours of community service is sufficient.

Czornobaj was convicted by a jury of two counts of criminal negligence causing death and two counts of dangerous driving causing death.

She is appealing her conviction in the June 2010 deaths of André Roy and his teenage daughter Jessie.

The trial heard Czornobaj had stopped her car on a highway to rescue ducklings on the side of the road when a motorcycle carrying the victims slammed into her car.
