A stretch of Guy Street between René-Lévesque & De Maisonneuve boulevards is closed today, as crews remove equipment brought in to repair a sinkhole in one of the busiest thoroughfares in downtown Montreal.

The street was closed at 9 a.m. and will reopen at 10 p.m. this evening.

The city says it will take about one more week to patch up the road. (Elias Abboud)

According to workers on site, crews are removing equipment brought in to pump water out of the sinkhole before repairs got underway.

The hole appeared at the corner of Ste-Catherine and Guy streets on the morning of Aug. 5, swallowing a backhoe.  A worker operating the backhoe was unhurt.

Workers have been on the scene 16 hours a day, and the city says it will take about one more week to patch up the road.
