'This second wave is claiming victims,' health minister says as province breaks all-time record
- Quebec reported 1,364 new cases of COVID-19 and 17 more deaths on Tuesday. Two deaths were removed from the total because they were no longer deemed related to COVID-19. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 81,014 confirmed cases and 5,899 people have died.

Quebec broke another record Tuesday, reporting 1,364 new cases — the highest single-day total ever reported in the province. This is the fifth consecutive day with over 1,000 cases recorded.
Seventeen people were reported dead, and hospitalization rates also continued to rise, with an increase of 36 in one day. That means there are now 397 in hospital for COVID-19.
"Big increase in the number of deaths, a consequence of community transmission and the progression of the virus," Health Minister Christian Dubé said on Twitter.
"This second wave is claiming victims. Sacrifices are necessary to have as few victims as possible."
As of Sunday, the province's seven-day positivity rate was at 6.21 per cent. At the height of the first wave, the province saw a rate of about 17.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?
- Fever.
- New or worsening cough.
- Difficulty breathing.
- Sudden loss of smell without a stuffy nose.
- Gastrointestinal issues (such as nausea, diarrhea).
If you think you may have COVID-19, the government asks that you call 1‑877‑644‑4545 to schedule an appointment at a screening clinic.
Quebec government reminders for preventing the spread of COVID-19:
- Wash your hands frequently.
- Avoid touching your face.
- Wear a mask or face covering when physical distancing is not possible. Wearing a mask is mandatory in enclosed public spaces across the province.
- Stay at least two metres away from other people as much as possible.
- Self-isolate for 14 days after returning from a stay outside the country.
