COVID-19 in Quebec: What you need to know on Friday

Health Minister Christian Dubé implored Quebecers to focus on preventing the spread of COVID-19 during the long weekend, and so far there haven't been outbreaks in schools. Here's what you need to know today.

  • Quebec reported 184 new cases of COVID-19 and one more death Friday. Another death was removed from the total because it was deemed not attributable to COVID-19. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 63,117 confirmed cases and 5,767 people have died.

Quebec Health Minister Christian Dubé implored Quebecers to focus on preventing the spread of COVID-19 during the Labour Day long weekend.

Dubé said a new system of classifications will be introduced next week, which will allow the government to impose restrictions in more targeted areas of the province. He warned the measures would be applied if case numbers continue to climb.

Quebec reported 184 new cases on Friday, and 187 new cases on Thursday, some of the highest totals since early summer.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19? 

  • Fever. 
  • New or worsening cough. 
  • Difficulty breathing. 
  • Sudden loss of smell without a stuffy nose. 

If you think you may have COVID-19, the government asks that you call 1‑877‑644‑4545 to schedule an appointment at a screening clinic. 

Quebec government reminders for preventing the spread of COVID-19: 

  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Wear a mask or face covering when physical distancing is not possible. Wearing a mask is mandatory in enclosed public spaces across the province.
  • Stay at least two metres away from other people as much as possible. 
  • Self-isolate for 14 days after returning from a stay outside the country.
