COVID-19 in Quebec: What you need to know on Tuesday
Province saw its highest single-day jump in hospitalizations since May today
- Quebec reported 799 new cases of COVID-19 and two new deaths Tuesday. Five deaths that occurred between Sept. 22 and 27 were also added to the total. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 73,450 confirmed cases and 5,833 people have died.
- There are 247 people in hospital (an increase of 35), including 41 in intensive care (an increase of four).
The greater Montreal area, Quebec City and the Chaudière-Appalaches region are now considered red zones under the province's COVID-19 alert system.
This means residents will now be faced with new restrictions as the province tries to control the surge in cases, including the closing of restaurant dining rooms and bars, as well as a ban on home gatherings.

- Sudden loss of smell without a stuffy nose.

Quebec government reminders for preventing the spread of COVID-19:
- Wash your hands frequently.
- Avoid touching your face.
- Wear a mask or face covering when physical distancing is not possible. Wearing a mask is mandatory in enclosed public spaces across the province.
- Stay at least two metres away from other people as much as possible.
- Self-isolate for 14 days after returning from a stay outside the country.
