COVID-19 in Quebec: What you need to know on Friday

Cases are up in the regions, karaoke is officially banned and students will be allowed to resume extracurricular activities. Here's what you need to know.

  • Quebec reported 219 new cases of COVID-19 and three more deaths on Friday. Two other deaths were removed from the total because they are no longer attributable to COVID-19. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 64,463 confirmed cases and 5,774 people have died.

Quebec recorded 219 cases on Friday, the highest daily number since June 6.

At a news conference, Premier François Legault urged residents to limit social gatherings indoors to avoid a return to the level of infection seen last the spring, when there were often 800 or more cases a day.

Earlier in the day, Education Minister Jean-François Roberge announced students will be allowed to participate in school sports and extracurricular activities starting Monday.

Roberge said students will be allowed to interact with those in their own class bubbles as well as with students in two other groups.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19? 

  • Fever. 
  • New or worsening cough. 
  • Difficulty breathing. 
  • Sudden loss of smell without a stuffy nose. 

If you think you may have COVID-19, the government asks that you call 1‑877‑644‑4545 to schedule an appointment at a screening clinic. 

Quebec government reminders for preventing the spread of COVID-19: 

  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Wear a mask or face covering when physical distancing is not possible. Wearing a mask is mandatory in enclosed public spaces across the province.
  • Stay at least two metres away from other people as much as possible. 
  • Self-isolate for 14 days after returning from a stay outside the country.
