Mother charged with 1st-degree murder in death of her 5-year-old son near Montreal
Boy was found inside home in Coteau-du-Lac, 2 other people were there when police arrived
A mother, 29, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of her five-year-old son southwest of Montreal.
Quebec provincial police say emergency services were called to the home about 3 a.m. in Coteau-du-Lac, Que., a community 55 kilometres from Montreal.
Inside the home, the boy was found unresponsive and his death was confirmed not long after.
Initially, Sgt. Marythe Bolduc said investigators were treating the boy's death as suspicious.
Two other people were inside the home and were taken to hospital. Police confirmed the woman charged was one of the people taken to hospital.
Crime scene technicians were at the home Wednesday and investigators and were looking to speak with people who had seen the child in the past 24 hours.
A publication ban prevents the release of any information that could identify the young victim.
The accused will return to court on Friday.
