The 2024 Canadian Screen Awards have been handed out and Debra Arbec, host of CBC Montreal News at 6, has won for best local news anchor.

The awards for news, entertainment and sports were given out Tuesday night in Toronto.

CBC/Radio-Canada had 288 screen award nominations this year, with 27 of those nominations in CBC News, current affairs and local.

CBC News anchor Adrienne Arsenault and reporter Jorge Barrera of "The National" took home two of the top news prizes.

Arsenault was named best national news anchor and Barrera was named best national reporter, while "Adrienne Arsenault Reports: Inside Ukraine" claimed best news or information program award.

The Canadian Screen Awards, presented by the non-profit Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, are an annual celebration of the country's film, television and digital talent. The awards began in 2013 after the merging of the academy's Gemini and Genie Awards — which, respectively, honoured English-language television and film.

This year's awards will be presented over the course of this week, culminating in a full-length award show hosted by Mae Martin on May 31.

The 2024 Canadian Screen Awards will air May 31 at 7 p.m. CT on CBC and CBC Gem.
