Six people in Quebec have been arrested and charged in connection with child pornography.

According to the Sûreté du Québec, Éric Robillard, 35, Éric Faubert, 36, André Légaré, 38, Daniel Fiset, 61, and Jacques Côté, 71, have appeared at courthouses in Sorel-Tracy, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, St-Jérôme and Trois-Rivières, where they were officially charged.

SQ spokesman Sgt. Claude Denis said the men were arrested Wednesday and Thursday and each face three charges: Accessing, possessing and distributing child pornography.

A sixth man, in his 60s, was released with the promise to appear at his Friday court date. He is expected to face the same charges as the five other men.

Denis said the men, who are from various towns and cities in southern Quebec, all allegedly downloaded and shared the same file — one that the SQ describes as containing a kind of violence that is "rarely seen."

Investigators searched the men's homes and seized their computers as well.

The arrests are the result of an investigation that began in the fall of 2014, after a foreign police service alerted officers in Quebec to the suspects.
