CBC Montreal Do Crew makes all the difference for A Horse Tale
Volunteers helped large-animal rescue group prepare to move into its new barn
A donkey named Guiness, Chocolate the pony and a couple of horses named Trooper and Cruiser were all on-hand to greet CBC's Do Crew last Saturday morning. A few minutes in their company was all the volunteers needed to feel motivated for the task which lay before us: cleaning out an old barn for A Horse Tale.
A Horse Tale is a non-profit animal rescue group that houses and cares for nine horses, one donkey and two goats. Three times a day, the volunteers take care of feeding, mucking and grooming the animals. There are about 40 volunteers who help keep A Horse Tale moving along daily and the group is 100 per cent volunteer-run.
The crews' generosity and true heartfelt desire to help others out, was incredible.- Mike Grenier, volunteer
Early next month the group will be moving the animals into a larger location just up the road from where it started about two and a half years ago.
On Saturday, our Do Crew swept out the stalls, brushed off the thick string of cobwebs from the ceilings and shovelled out the hay-packed muck from the barn floors. The team worked so tirelessly that we finished more than an hour ahead of schedule.
"All I can say is "WOW!!!!" to you and your team. The crews generosity and true heartfelt desire to help others out was incredible. I know the site was dusty and certainly a huge task to get everything cleaned up but you guys did it all without skipping a beat. It was go, go, go from the moment you got started. I can honestly say this has put us way ahead in being able to get the barn up and running in our short timeframe."
Thanks to this month's Do Crew team for taking the smell and the heat and hard work in stride. I hope you had as much fun as I did.
