CBC Quebec community bureaus: What are they?
We're sending journalists out to simply listen. Could your neighbourhood be next?
At CBC Quebec, we are committed to telling your stories and connecting with our province's many communities.
In 2021, we launched our community bureau initiative. The goal of these bureaus is to build and sustain relationships with people in underserved, underrepresented areas, to strengthen our journalism by making it more reflective of all Quebecers and broaden the range of storytelling topics.
Where we've been
Our first stop was Brossard, followed by Lévis, the Laurentians, Parc Extension, Listuguj and Laval. A CBC journalist was based in each community and was dedicated to listening, learning and sharing its stories — providing the opportunity to dig deep into the issues that matter to residents.
Here are some the stories that have come out of these bureaus:
We're just getting started
Our next stop will be the Eastern Townships in August/September. If you would like to book a time for yourself or your organization to chat virtually with a journalist, please email us at mtlcomm@cbc.ca and we will work with you to set up a time.
We are always open to suggestions on where to visit next. If you would like to suggest your town or neighbourhood, drop us a line at the e-mail address mentioned above. We are always looking to make community connections and gather story ideas from English-speakers in Quebec.
