CBC Charity Drive: NDG Food Depot breaks isolation
Member of NDG Food Depot 'community' tells CBC's Debra Arbec how agency is about more than food baskets
Eleonora Zawislak lost her job a few years ago, when the company she was working for shut down without warning.
At 64, Zawislak was too young to collect a pension but too old to easily find a new job. She said she blew through her savings and eventually, she turned to the NDG Food Depot for help.
"I was a little hesitant," Zawislak told Debra Arbec, host of CBC News Montreal at 6. "I wasn't sure what to expect."
"But...it's a wonderful, wonderful place of resources...It's like one big, happy community."
CBC Charity Drive
Once again this year, CBC Montreal supported the NDG Food Depot for our annual CBC Christmas Sing-In charity drive.
All of this year's proceeds go to help the NDG Food Depot, a community-based, non-profit organization that works with other community partners to address issues of food security in NDG and surrounding areas.
Its programs include: food and cooking skills, emergency food baskets, community gardens and volunteer-run meals.
