Canadiens Hall of Fame at Bell Centre closes its doors
Displays from Hall of Fame will be redeployed throughout the Bell Centre
Montreal Canadiens fans hoping to bathe in the team's rich history one last time, are now out of luck.
The team's Hall of Fame closed on Aug. 30, five-and-a-half years after it opened.
The Hall of Fame opened in January 2010 as part of the team's centennial anniversary.
A statement from the team says the Hall of Fame is closing in order to offer new amenities to fans and clients during games. The team will redistribute certain displays throughout the Bell Centre.
More than 200,000 people visited The Montreal Canadiens Hall of fame since it opened.
The hockey club also says the Centennial Plaza, which was closed in 2013 to make way for a condominium tower, will soon reopen.
"As the real estate development projects around the Bell Centre move forward, we will be in a position to proceed with a number of new initiatives, including the redeployment of Centennial Plaza," said Kevin Gilmore, the team's executive vice-president.
The Centennial Plaza was first built on the west side of the Bell Centre, and featured bronze statues of greats Howie Morenz, Guy Lafleur, Jean Béliveau and Maurice Richard.
It will reopen on the east side of the building in the coming months.
