Boy taken to hospital after fall from Mont-Sainte-Anne ski lift
Ski instructor also fell but was unhurt, 40 people needed to be rescued from lift
A boy and a young woman fell several metres from a ski lift at the Mont-Sainte-Anne ski resort near Quebec City late Sunday morning.
The boy was taken to hospital, however, officials say his injuries are minor, and he was released by mid-afternoon.
The woman who fell is a ski instructor at the Mont-Sainte-Anne Freestyle Ski Club .
It is not clear whether she fell at the same time as the child, or if she jumped voluntarily to help him.
The incident occurred on the South Express chair lift, and witnesses say the fall was caused by a mechanical failure.
Staff at the Mont-Sainte-Anne resort took about an hour and 40 minutes to help down all skiers who were stuck on the lift.
"Right now, we are currently investigating the source of the failure that occurred today. We make daily inspections of each lift before operating the station," said Lisa-Marie Lacasse, the resort's spokeswoman.
This is the second mechanical problem occur in just over a week at Mont-Sainte-Anne.
Eight days ago, mechanical problems forced skiers from lifts at Mont-Sainte-Anne on a particularly busy day. The same thing occurred at nearby Stoneham.
