Montreal police are investigating a homicide in Ahuntsic-Cartierville after a body was found Wednesday morning.

A spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) said a 911 call was placed at around 10 a.m. about a body in the Île-de-la-Visitation nature park, near the intersection of Gouin Boulevard East and Lille Street.

When officers arrived, they confirmed the person was dead, but were not able to determine their identity.

A security perimeter was established and investigators were called in to investigate the death, which was at first considered suspicious.

The SPVM confirmed at the end of the day that it was indeed a homicide. The investigation was then taken over by the police service's major crimes division.

"Various elements collected at the crime scene confirm that it was a murder," said spokesperson Const. Jean-Pierre Brabant.

Police have still not released any information about the identity of the victim, including their age and gender.

They said an autopsy will be performed to identify the victim.

This is the 32nd murder so far this year on the SPVM's territory.
