Blue Jays last stop in Montreal father-son baseball odyssey
Pair deck themselves out in Montreal Expos gear to attend games
Montrealers Mitchell Kadanoff and his son, Max, are at the tail-end of a six day baseball road trip but have decided to extend it to include a stop at Rogers Centre to see the red-hot Blue Jays.
Mitchell said he was inspired after growing tired of making one-day trips to Boston or Toronto just to see live baseball. He was an avid Montreal Expos fan before the franchise moved to Washington, D.C. in 2005.
"We are baseball fans. We love baseball. We lost the Expos and the only way to see live professional baseball is to hit the road, so that's what we do," said Mitchell.
Over the past six days, the Kadanoffs have made it to five different cities and watched six baseball games.
The duo have decked themselves out in Expos merchandise at every game.
The Kadanoffs' visit to Wrigley Field to see the Chicago Cubs was particularly memorable.
Not only did Max get his Expos baseball hat signed by San Francisco Giant Matt Duffy — he also caught a fly ball.
"We were in the first deck and the ball hit the second deck, bounced down and everybody was looking for it. I just grabbed it," Max said.
The pair have been paying close attention to the Toronto Blue Jays' success: the Jays are on a ten-game winning streak and have just moved in to first place in the American League East division.
That's why the Kadanoffs have decided to extend their trip to Toronto to see the Jays take on the New York Yankees.
If they can get tickets, that is.
"Of all the tickets I've tried to get on this trip, [the Blue Jays] have been really difficult. I still don't have my tickets. I know I'll get in the stadium somehow, but it hasn't been easy," said Mitchell.
But don't expect Max to cheer for the Canadian team.
"I hope the Yankees beat them," he says.
